War is Hell

April 3, 2001

A couple of days ago, Slobodan Milosevic, former "President" and dictator of Yugoslavia, was arrested in his mountain villa without contest after vowing to "not give up without a fight." The public outcry for the arrest and trial of the architect of the Bosnian conflict has finally been heard, and now all that remains is for him to undergo the undoubtedly lengthly legal process ensuing. Perhaps he'll even be turned over the United Nations War Crimes Tribunal in The Hague, Netherlands.

This is what they want you to think. While I am in no way condoning any sort of ethnic cleansing like that which this man has undertaken in Hitler-esque grandiose style, what must be understood is that in no way are there "winners" or "losers" in war. Everybody loses. That's right, no ticker tapes parades, grand speeches, or mesmerized young history students sitting in their pupitres will change the fact that WAR IS HELL. It truly amazes me when the "victors" sit back and watch, completely absolved of their own crimes, while the "losers" rot in hell. Everybody involved loses, and war is not good for anything.
