I have seen what I believe to be the state of humanity, an enormous range though it is. From the frazzled beggar on the street to the wealthy high class tuxedo-clad theatre-goer, and everything in between, I have seen a greatly varied population. What I do guess is that this is not even the half of it, being that what I have seen arises from my own meager travels here in the United States and the European Union, my most recent meandering being a week spent in London.

What I sincerely hope is that the population of destitute and homeless people inhabiting this great Earth does not grow to a larger portion than it has already. As our world's population grows, it is the duty of those of us who have the wealth and prosperity to help those in need, and not be the exceptionally selfish people that we all are perfectly capable of and known for being, simply ignoring them when they ask for our help as I have seen myself hundreds of times in the time I have spent in cities where the destitute live, such and as London and Rome. I give to them what I can. I want that they not use it to purchase alcohol, but use it to feed themselves and their loved ones. A couple of days ago I was asked by a young woman, who called herself "desperate," for money for coffee.

I then said, "How about you and I both go for coffee?" She promptly said, "I don't think so" and moved along.

I cannot understand her reluctance to be helped by me. Perhaps coffee is not what she wanted to have money for after all.
